Regardless of the stream, the national curriculum (KSSR for primary, KSSM for secondary) is standardized. Students in an SJK(C) in Penang learn the exact same history and science syllabus as a student in a rural SK in Terengganu—only the language of delivery changes.
The system is divided into two primary stages, with students typically attending school for about 5–6 hours a day, often starting as early as 7:30 AM.
