The city is not portrayed as the vibrant, bustling hub of typical commercial cinema. Instead, Jayasundara paints Kolkata as a suffocating, surreal landscape. The camera lingers on damp walls, the eponymous mushrooms growing in the cracks, and the silence between characters.
