Musically, Annamayya standardized the sankirtana form, which predated the modern kriti of Carnatic music. Each song is a miniature drama. It typically opens with the Pallavi (chorus), followed by several Charanams (verses), and often ends with a Mudra (signature), where Annamacharya names himself or the deity, Venkateswara.
