Born on November 24, 1977, in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Ashwarya Rai began her modeling career at a young age. Her breakthrough came in 1999 when she won the Miss India World title, which catapulted her into the world of cinema. Her debut film, Aur Tere Bin (2001), marked the beginning of her successful acting career.
Aishwarya’s first film was not a song-and-dance spectacle but Mani Ratnam’s political drama Iruvar . Playing two roles (Pushpavalli and Kalpana), her debut was audacious. The most notable moment occurs when her character realizes she is being used as a pawn in a political feud. Without a single line of dialogue, her face transitions from adoration to shattered disillusionment. Critics noted that the teenager held her own against the titan Mohanlal.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus. While Madhuri Dixit dazzled as Chandramukhi, Aishwarya delivered the performance of a lifetime as Parvati (Paro). She evolved the character from a playful, swinging village girl to a bitter, fire-breathing matriarch.
