The legacy version requires a specific update path (usually Update v1.0.9 or v1.0.11). NSP files allow you to install updates and DLC (like the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack ) as separate, unlinked packages. With XCI, updates often require patching the base XCI file (creating a "patched XCI"). With NSP, you simply install the base game, then install the update NSP. If an update breaks something (which happens with emulators like Ryujinx/Yuzu), you can uninstall just the update via Goldleaf or DBI.
